Established in Oct 1999 “The Bajaj Institute of Learning & Vocational Training for the Deaf” (BIL), under the aegis of The Bajaj Public Charitable Trust, has been providing FREE education and vocational training to the deaf children from Pre-School to Class XII. As per the Institute’s Motto our Aim is to ensure that the Deaf Children of our society are given a fair chance to compete with their peers and stand for themselves in life. From a modest student strength of 25 in 1999 the Institute’s student population has grown to 142 at present. Many more children specially from other cities and states are waiting in the queue to be admitted in this unique Institute which now stands as one of the best in India imparting education to the Deaf. To this end the Institute’s hostel, located at Sahastradhara Road, next to the USHA Colony, is nearing completion. BIL is being coordinated by DEEDS (Development, Education, & Empowerment of the Disabled in Society), Mumbai on behalf of the Trust.
AN APPEAL TO OUR FELLOW INDIANS

We appeal to all to help us at BIL to achieve our AIM, VISION & MISSION for the DEAF OF OUR SOCIETY. We all can do by: –
(a)Corporates, through their CSR programs and Individuals (with a kind and empathetic approach) sponsor a Child for his/her education as per the following: –
- Annual Sponsorship @ Rs 48,000/= annually. This includes the charges towards the child’s books and two sets of uniform.
- Part Sponsorship @ Rs 24,000/= annually. This includes the charges towards the child’s books.
- Sponsor a Class of 15 Students @ Rs 7, 20,000/= annually through their programs of CSR. A minimum of Eight Students may be sponsored if so desired.
- Sponsor Student(s) for the hostel fees + education @ Rs 1, 45,000/= annually.
(b) Sponsor the cost of a utility educational item or gift the same for the Institute for educating the Deaf. Some of the items for sponsorship/donating/gifting are suggested are: –
- Colour LED 49 inches TVs for smart education. Our deaf children learn much more through visual means and experts in the field recommend teaching the Deaf through Smart Education System since these children are extremely focused in their attitudes and approach
- Class room furniture or hostel furniture.
- A School Bus.
The Bajaj Institute of Learning & Vocational Training for Deaf Children or BIL, as it is popularly known, is a Charitable project set up in 1999, by the Bajaj Charitable Trust. The trust is a registered, voluntary, secular body established in 1966 under the Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1950. It enjoys tax exemption benefits under section 80G of the Income Tax Act and can accept funds from any international/national body. The Institute provides a space for positive learning to the children with hearing impairment. It also helps their integration into the main stream to become responsible and contributing members of the society.
Management & Governing Council
A Governing Council manages the affairs of the Institute. Under the overall guidelines of the Board of Trustees, the Governing Council is responsible for formulating educational policy, approving financial budgets, fund raising, recruitment of the faculty and staff, appointment of committees and sub-committees and all other activities. The Director of the institute, responsible for day to day on-site management of the Institute, is also a member of Governing Council. An advisory committee, comprising of eminent personalities including Special Educator like Dr. Madan Vashist from Gallaudet University, USA, also assists the Governing Council.
A Co-ordination Center initiated at Mumbai, is engaged in continuous effort to network and liaison with the government, organizations offering similar services, corporate houses and concerned individuals so as raise requisite resources and goodwill for the cause. The Institute in addition to receiving aid from Central and Uttarakhand Governments, is also funded by a number of other sponsors and donors including prominent industrial houses and private organization.
